An American in England

An American visiting in England asked at the hotel for the elevator.0
The portiere looked a bit confused but smiled when he realized what the man wanted.0
"You must mean the lift," he said.0
"No," the American responded. "If I ask for the elevator, I mean the elevator."
"Well," the portiere answered, "Over here we call them lifts".0
"Now you listen", the American said rather irritated, "Someone in America invented the elevator"0
"Oh, right you are sir," the portiere said in a polite tone, "but someone here in England invented the language.0"

Dear Mahmoud

Indeed . Some of my friends speak English that I occasionally find strange to accept their preferences . In an effort to further understanding this matter , I visited some links to sites that aim to bridge that gap - or let you laugh while trying. There are some serious entries about the differences among various English dialects, which I urge you to check on the web. You will find zillions of these funny examples.

Here is one for your convenience
