احترت قليلا في اختيار الكلمة الأنسب لترجمة "discipline" في هذه الجملة:

هل يمكن ترجمتها بالعلم أو بالفرع؟؟

لا يمكن إدراج هذا الكتاب أو حتى العلم الذي يستند إليه تحت مهارات التعامل مع الآخرين .

أختي الفاضلة دلال،
هذه، حسب رأيي، حالة من الحالات التي نشاهد فيها "هزال" النص المصدري. إن الصيغة الانكليزية ليست سليمة تماماً. وعندما تعترضنا هذه الحالات في الممارسة الترجمية، فإننا نراسل طالب الترجمة لجلب انتباهه إلى ذلك، ثم نقترح عليه بديلاً للنص المصدري وترجمة (أو أكثر) للنص المنقّح. إن العديد من الزملاء/الزميلات يفعلون ذلك. وأورد إليك في ما يلي نص استفتاء موجود على موقع مترجمين، وعنوان الاستفتاء: تحسين جودة النص المصدري، (http://www.translatorscafe.com/cafe/MegaBBS/thread-view.asp?threadid=7151&start=1)
Lately I have worked on a couple of projects where the source material was so badly done, that it gave me a feeling of dusgust even just reading it. However they came from my regular client and therefore I didn't want to refuse. I allways used to think that my goal as a translator was to create the target material that will give the reader the same information and the very same impression as the source. However in that case it would be very unpleasant experience for the reader. So the question is: Should the translator correct the bad style of the source material in his/her translation? My vote is - yes. But I only think so, because I would feel uncomfortable delivering badly written peice of material to my client.

فإذا قمنا بعملية بهلوانية بسيطة لاستخراج الصيغ التالية:

نرى أن الجمل هزيلة، إن لم نقل ركيكة، وأن التعبير ينقصه "البيان".

عندئذ يمكن:
1/ مراسلة صاحب النص/الترجمة واقتراح تحسين جودة النص الأصلي، إن سمح السياق.
2/ تقديم ترجمة وظيفية لا تلتزم كل الالتزام بالنص الأصلي.
وفي الحالة الثانية أقترح:
فلا هذا الكتاب ولا المادة التي يعتمد عليها لهما علاقة بما يُسمّى "مهارات التعامل مع الآخرين"
أو: فلا هذا الكتاب ولا المادة التي يعتمد عليها يمكن إدراجهما ضمن ما يُسمّى "مهارات التعامل مع الآخرين"
أو: كما اقترح الزميل معتصم الحارث، والصيغة أفضل بالنسبة للغة العربية، مع تحوير طفيف: لا يمكن إدراج هذا الكتاب ولا المادة التي يعتمد عليها ضمن ما يُسمّى "مهارات التعامل مع الآخرين".
