هل هذه الترجمة صحيحة أم خاطئة؟

هذه العبارة مشهورة وهي لجوزيف كونراد في روايته الرائعة, لورد جيم والنص الكامل كالتالي :

For a bag of pepper they would cut each other's throats without hesitation, and would forswear their souls, of which they were so careful otherwise: the bizarre obstinacy of that desire made them defy death in a thousand shapes; the unknown seas, the loathsome and strange diseases; wounds, captivity, hunger, pestilence, and despair. It made them great! By heavens! it made them heroic . . .

ويمكن ترجمتها كالتالي دون التزام بترجمة حرفية :

"لقد ذهب تجار القرن السابع عشر إلى هناك من أجل الفلفل ، لأن حب الفلفل كان نارا تتقد في صدور المغامرين الألمان والأنجليز في عصر جيمس الأول. وأين لا يمكنهم الذهاب من أجل الفلفل !
من أجل كيس من الفلفل كادوا يذبحون بعضهم البعض دون تردد ،ويبيعون أرواحهم...إلخ.

ترجمة جيده ولكن عبارة"وأين لا يمكنهم الذهاب من أجل الفلفل "تبدو غبر واضحه ويمكن استبدالها ب"ولقد كانوا علي استعداد للذهاب الي اي مكان من اجل الفلفل"
أو" لقد كانوا علي أهبة الاستعداد للذهاب الي اي مكان من اجل الحصول علي الفلفل"
