كنيسة جبل نيبو
جبل نيبو أو نبو يقع إلى الشمال الغربي من مادبا - الأردن. وهو واحد من المواقع التي يدعى أن موسى عليه السلام دفن فيها. فهناك موقع مزعوم آخر على طريق أريحا – القدس. والسبب الوحيد لوجود هذا الموقع هو أن أحد الرعاة حلم بأن قبر موسى عليه السلام موجود في هذا المكان، فبنيت فيه كنيسة ارتبطت باسم موسى عليه السلام، ثم اندثرت مع الزمن، لكن ذكرها ورد في ملاحظات بعض الرحالة (أثيريا 394، بطرس الايبيري بعيد عام 597، ثيتمار 1216 وأحد رهبان الفرنسيسكان عام 1564). مما دفع معهد الفرنسيسكان للعهد القديم في القدس للقيام عام 1932 بحفريات أظهرت آثار كنيسة وبعض الأديرة. وقد ذكر جبل نيبو في إحدى وثائق القرن السابع عشر دون الإشارة إلى أية قبور أو خرائب.
Mt. Nebo Church
Mount Nebo is situated to the west of Madaba, it is one of the claimed sites of the Moses’ Tomb. There is another claimed tomb on the Jericho - Jerusalem Road. The story began when a shepherd saw Moses’ Tomb in his dream. That dream was an enough reason to erect a chapel at Sayagha in the name of Moses. Many pilgrims and travelers mentioned this site in their writings. (Egeria 394, Peter the Iberian, Bishop of Gaza after 597, Thetmar 1216 and one of the Franciscan Monks 1564). In 1932 the foundations of a chapel was found out during excavations made by The Franciscan Old Testament Institute in Jerusalem. The Monastery at Sayagha was constructed partly on these foundations. Higher still above Sayagha, just east of Mount Nebo is a place now called Khirbet Al-Mukhayyat. Mount Nebo Church was mentioned in a document of the Seventeenth Century but no tombs or ruins were mentioned.
