قلعة باب الخليل
قلعة باب الخليل تقع في الشق الغربي الجنوبي من بلدة القدس القديمة بجانب بوابة الخليل (أو بوابة عمر بن الخطاب التي دخل منها يوم فتح القدس واستلامها من أيدي الرومان). وفي الجهة الشمالية الشرقية منها يوجد برج داود الذي يحمل اسم بانيه الملك الناصر داود من ملوك الأيوبيين. وتبلغ مساحة القلعة اكثر من سبعة دونمات. وتحتوي على مساحات وغرف وقاعات متعددة ولها مدخل واحد من جهة الشرق والثابت أنها بناء إسلامي. وقد أكد ذلك مخطوطتان حجريتان عثر عليهما عام 1938 الباحث الأثرى جونز موكان مدير الآثار الإسلامية أيام الانتداب البريطاني. ولا توجد لقلعة باب الخليل وبرج داود الناصر الموجود بداخلها أية علاقة من قريب أو من بعيد بـ داود عليه السلام.
David’s Citadel
David’s Citadel (Bab Al-Khalil Citadel) is located in the west southern part of Old Jerusalem, near Al-Khalil Gate (Bab Al-Khalil) from which it took its Islamic name, This gate has another name: Omar’s Gate, because it was the place from which Khaliff Omar Ben Al-Khattab entered Jerusalem and received it from the Romans. David’s Tower (King Al-Nasser Dawoud’s Tower) is located at the northeastern side of the citadel. The citadel’s area is more than 7.000 square meters and it has one entrance from the east, an iron bridge renewed during the British Mandate and strengthened after the Israeli occupation. In 1938, Mr. Mocan, the Director of Islamic Antiquities during the British Mandate found two stone inscriptions and proved that both the said citadel and the tower were Islamic buildings
