Solomon’s Stables
Solomon’s Stables - Suleiman Ben Abdel Malik’s Stables (The Umayyad Muslim Khaliff) - Built with Byzantine stones from the Hadrian Era by the Umayyad Muslim Khaliff Abdel Malik Ben Marwan. The stables were archaeologically investigated by Charles Wane in 1872 and by Sir Charles Parker in 1909 and no Jewish remains were found. When Muslim Khaliff Walid Ben Abdel Malik died, his brother Suleiman (In Hebrew Solomon) was in Ramlah, Suleiman Ben abdel Malik wanted to be crowned in Jerusalem, he came to Jerusalem, his horses were put in the stables, since that time the name of the stables became Suleiman’s (Solomon’s) Stables. When the Crusaders occupied Jerusalem they thought that these stables were belonging to Solomon The King. A dome, a chair and a water fountain were constructed and prepared for the same Muslim Khaliff Suleiman Ben Abdel Malik was also named as Suleiman’s Dome, Suleiman’s Chair and Suleiman’s Fountain. But no relation whatsoever to Solomon the King, who ruled, lived & died adjacent to Yemen borders, near the Kingdom of his wife Belqis, the Queen of Saba
